Echoes of Identity

Curated by Bertan Selim, VID Foundation for Photography

VID Foundation for Photography presents the photography exhibition entitled: Echoes of Identity – a thought-provoking showcase that delves deep into the complex themes of gender, history and identity. This exhibition features the photography of three talented artists from the Balkans: Stefan Pavić from Serbia, Zsuzsánna Fodor from Romania, and Vid Redža from Croatia. The exhibition focuses on personal memories of the three participating artists in their own identity formation, and how this has impacted their lives. Each artist presents approximately seven works, offering unique perspectives and interpretations on the intricate weaving of history, personal memories, and the transformative effects of migration. This thought-provoking shoawcase invites visitors to reflect on the diverse and dynamic forces that define who we are.

Stefan Pavić explores the nuances of self-formation and identity through his evocative photography, capturing moments that challenge conventional understandings of politics and history. Zsuzsánna Fodor’s work highlights the powerful intersection of personal and historical narratives, inviting viewers to consider how our sense of self is influenced by both past and present. Vid Redža’s art focuses on the profound impact of migration, both on individuals and families, portraying the fluidity and resilience inherent in the human experience. Their work shown here has a universal relevance to lives or everyday people living in the different neighbourhoods of The Hague.

Together, these artists create a rich tapestry that reflects on the diverse and dynamic forces shaping who we are. We invite you to immerse yourself in their stories and reflect on the myriad ways gender, history, and migration influence our identities.
